In response to student requirement, Sacred Heart University in Farifield is lending a master of public health program with a drop-off 2018 opening -- and curriculum superintendent Anna Greer couldn't be more satisfied .
" I'm excessively elicited about it ," suggested Greer, an associate professor at Sacred Heart since 2011 and chairman of the undergraduate planned head in practice science." We have a growing number of students who are interested in going a graduate degree in public health, but they've been going to other academies to do so ."
In addition to the field of usage science or kinesiology, students prosecuting the undergraduate degree in public health will be introduced to public health thoughts, program planning, society state growing, subsidy writing, epidemiology and biostatistics, health government and morals, according to Greer. The 48 -credit curriculum can be completed in two years by full-time students and is also open to part-time students .
Adding such graduate platforms at SHU involves a multistage recommendation process that will cover vetting by faculty across a number of self-restraints , not all related to state disciplines .
" The one question that is repeatedly expected is,' What is the need for a programme designed ?'" Greer read." We look to see if there's a crack in what we already offering and gauge whether enough parties are interested in it. The university has been very successful at replenishing those needs ."
Having received the university's approval, the masters' curriculum now must be accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit class of public health and public health platforms outside class of public health. Sacred Heart will submit an application to begin that process abruptly, Greer replied .
Candidates for the graduate platform must have a bachelor's degree in any major from a four-year accredited university with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Additionally, they must have earned a C score or higher in college-level pre-calculus, statistics and sociology or psychology .
" I want to build a program that facilitates the development of other qualified public health professionals is fully committed to and agitated about improving parish state ," said Greer. She estimated that the initial class will include 15 to 20 students, and said the search for three core faculty member should be underway by this sink .
