In have responded to student requirement, Sacred Heart University in Farifield is adding a master of public health platform with a drop-off 2018 start -- and program lead Anna Greer couldn't be more delighted .
" I'm exceedingly evoked about it ," replied Greer, an associate professor at Sacred Heart since 2011 and administrator of the undergraduate curriculum head in rehearsal discipline." We have a growing number of students who are interested in going a graduate degree in public health, but they've been going to other institutions to do so ."
In addition to the field of practise discipline or kinesiology, students haunting the undergraduate degree in public health will be introduced to public health conjectures, program planning, community health occurrence, subsidy writing, epidemiology and biostatistics, health organisation and moralities, according to Greer. The 48 -credit program can be completed in two years by full-time both students and is also open to part-time students .
Adding such grad curricula at SHU involves a multistage recommendation process that will cover vetting by module across a number of restraints , not all related to state sciences .
" The one question that is frequently expected is,' What is the need for a program ?'" Greer did." We look to see if there's a chink in what we already volunteer and be determined whether enough beings are interested in it. The university has been very successful at replenishing those necessitates ."
Having received the university's approval, the masters' curriculum now must be accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, an independent enterprise recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and public health planneds outside class of public health. Sacred Heart will submit an application to begin that process shortly, Greer pronounced .
Candidates for the grad program must have a bachelor's degree in any major from a four-year accredited university with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Additionally, they must have earned a C point or highest in college-level pre-calculus, statistics and sociology or psychology .
" I want to build a program that facilitates the development of other qualified public health professionals committed to and stimulated about improving parish health ," added Greer. She estimated that the initial class will be incorporated in 15 to 20 students, and said the search for three core faculty members should be underway by this die .
