In have responded to student challenge, Sacred Heart University in Farifield is contributing a master of public health planned with a descent 2018 launching -- and curriculum head Anna Greer couldn't be more satisfied .
" I'm particularly stimulated about it ," added Greer, an associate professor at Sacred Heart since 2011 and conductor of the undergraduate program director in employ discipline." We have a growing number of students who are interested in coming a graduate degree in public health, but they've been going to other class to do so ."
In addition to the field of exercising discipline or kinesiology, students haunting the "masters degree" in public health will be introduced to public health possibilities, program planning, society state occurrence, gift writing, epidemiology and biostatistics, health disposal and morals, according to Greer. The 48 -credit curriculum can be completed in two years by full-time both students and is too open to part-time students .
Adding such graduate programs at SHU involves a multistage proposition process that will cover vetting by department across a number of penalizes , not all related to state disciplines .
" The one question that is repeatedly questioned is,' What is the need for a programme designed ?'" Greer answered." We look to see if there's a crack in what we already present and gauge whether enough parties are interested in it. The university has been very successful at replenishing those motivations ."
Having received the university's approval, the masters' planned now must be accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit class of public health and public health programs outside schools of public health. Sacred Heart will submit an application to begin that process abruptly, Greer alleged .
Candidates for the graduate planned must have a bachelor's degree in any significant from a four-year accredited university with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Additionally, they must have earned a C tier or higher in college-level pre-calculus, statistics and sociology or psychology .
" I want to build a program that facilitates the development of other qualified public health professionals committed to and excited about improving community state ," alleged Greer. She estimated that the initial class will include 15 to 20 students, and said the search for three core faculty member should be underway by this precipitate .
