In response to student necessitate, Sacred Heart University in Farifield is adding a master of public health curriculum with a sink 2018 open -- and program director Anna Greer couldn't be more satisfied .
" I'm excessively roused about it ," announced Greer, an assistant professor at Sacred Heart since 2011 and head of the undergraduate curriculum administrator in workout science." We have a growing number of students who are interested in going a graduate degree in public health, but they've been going to other institutions to do so ."
In addition to the field of practise science or kinesiology, students prosecuting the "masters degree" in public health will be introduced to public health conjectures, program planning, community health blooming, gift writing, epidemiology and biostatistics, health disposal and ethics, according to Greer. The 48 -credit program can be completed in two years by full-time students and is likewise open to part-time students .
Adding such postgraduate platforms at SHU involves a multistage project process that includes vetting by department across a number of self-disciplines , not all related to state disciplines .
" The one question that is repeatedly queried is,' What is the need for a program ?'" Greer responded." We look to see if there's a chink in what we already volunteer and gauge whether enough beings are interested in it. The university has been very successful at filling those motives ."
Having received the university's approval, the masters' planned now must be accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, an independent busines recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit academies of public health and public health programs outside academies of public health. Sacred Heart will submit an application to begin that process abruptly, Greer answered .
Candidates for the graduate planned must have a bachelor's degree in any major from a four-year accredited university with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Additionally, they must have earned a C evaluate or higher in college-level pre-calculus, statistics and sociology or psychology .
" I want to build a program that facilitates the development of other qualified public health professionals committed to and agitated about improving parish health ," enunciated Greer. She estimated that the initial class will be incorporated in 15 to 20 students, and said the search for three core faculty members should be underway by this sink .
