In response to student demand, Sacred Heart University in Farifield is supplementing a master of public health program with a come 2018 opening -- and curriculum administrator Anna Greer couldn't be more pleased .
" I'm unusually evoked about it ," announced Greer, an associate professor at Sacred Heart since 2011 and administrator of the undergraduate program chairman in use science." We have a growing number of students who are interested in going a graduate degree in public health, but they've been going to other class to do so ."
In addition to the field of exercising discipline or kinesiology, students pursuing the "masters degree" in public health will be introduced to public health conjectures, program planning, community state exploitation, concession writing, epidemiology and biostatistics, health disposal and moralities, according to Greer. The 48 -credit curriculum can be completed in two years by full-time both students and is also open to part-time students .
Adding such alumnu planneds at SHU involves a multistage project process that includes vetting by module across a number of penalizes , not all related to state sciences .
" The one question that is frequently expected is,' What is the need for a program ?'" Greer pronounced." We look to see if there's a crack in what we already proposal and gauge whether enough parties are interested in it. The university has been very successful at filling those necessaries ."
Having received the university's approval, the masters' platform now must be accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, an independent bureau recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit institutions of public health and public health planneds outside academies of public health. Sacred Heart will submit an application to begin that process abruptly, Greer replied .
Candidates for the alumnu program must have a bachelor's degree in any significant from a four-year accredited university with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Additionally, they must have earned a C gradation or highest in college-level pre-calculus, statistics and sociology or psychology .
" I want to build a program that facilitates the development of other qualified public health professionals is fully committed to and stimulated about improving parish state ," said Greer. She estimated that the initial class will include 15 to 20 students, and said the search for three core faculty members should be underway by this die .
