In have responded to student ask, Sacred Heart University in Farifield is adding a master of public health program with a sink 2018 open -- and program administrator Anna Greer couldn't be more pleased .
" I'm exceedingly excited about it ," said Greer, an associate professor at Sacred Heart since 2011 and lead of the undergraduate curriculum lead in workout science." We have a growing number of students who are interested in going a graduate degree in public health, but they've been going to other academies to do so ."
In addition to the field of exercising science or kinesiology, students haunting the "bachelors degree" in public health will be introduced to public health philosophies, program planning, community health exploitation, concession writing, epidemiology and biostatistics, state government and ethics, according to Greer. The 48 -credit planned can be completed in two years by full-time both students and is also open to part-time students .
Adding such grad platforms at SHU concerns a multistage recommendation process that includes vetting by department across a number of self-restraints , not all related to state disciplines .
" The one question that is repeatedly requested is,' What is the need for a program ?'" Greer supposed." We look to see if there's a gap in what we already render and be determined whether enough beings are interested in it. The university has been very successful at replenishing those hungers ."
Having received the university's approval, the masters' curriculum now must be accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, an independent busines recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit academies of public health and public health platforms outside class of public health. Sacred Heart will submit an application to begin that process abruptly, Greer said .
Candidates for the alumnu platform must have a bachelor's degree in any significant from a four-year accredited university with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Additionally, they must have earned a C score or highest in college-level pre-calculus, statistics and sociology or psychology .
" I want to build a program that facilitates the development of other qualified public health professionals is fully committed to and energized about improving parish state ," announced Greer. She estimated that the initial class will be incorporated in 15 to 20 students, and said the search for three core faculty member should be underway by this drop-off .
